Gallery Meghan: So Tim, where are you from?

Tim Oldford: I was born on a farm in the Canadian Prairies. Probably not the best start for a landscape photographer, but what are you to do? My mother was a landscape artist, so I was dragged around to every gallery across Canada at a very young age. My father taught me the basics of photography on his WWII camera and I loved the magic that the camera possessed.

GM: When did you come to the Island, and what made you stay?

Tim Oldford: At 15 years of age I moved to Victoria and fell in love with the beauty of the coast. After school I got into photography more seriously and had some success with weddings and nature pictures being published in newspapers and books. When my kids came along I put my camera down (as a professional) for about 15 years and only picked it up again after they graduated school.

GM: Well I am glad you have gotten back into it, your work is stunning!

Tim Oldford: In the last 5 years I have discovered the love for the camera again. I have sold many pictures through galleries and found that even if people don’t know me, they can connect with my photos and I find that very gratifying. I have also started to build my own frames and have found that challenging but rewarding.
